Last month, Eat Well Global participated in the 40th Anniversary European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians conference (EFAD Conference) at the World Trade Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This annual conference brings together dietitians and dietetic students from 33 National Dietetic Associations, representing 29 European countries.

On the morning of Thursday, 27 September, Eat Well Global hosted a pre-conference workshop for a diverse group of European dietitians and nutritionists entitled, “Communicating to Influence.” The two-part workshop featured Milton Stokes, PhD, MPH, RD of Bayer U.S. Crop Science and Suzan Tuinier of Nutrimedia to lead presentations on “Communicating on controversial topics” and “Dietitians in the media: how to create news as a nutrition expert,” respectively. Together, these interactive sessions covered communication strategies to create impactful change and positively influence both clients and consumers to make healthful choices. After lunch, most of the participants joined the afternoon workshop on leadership, hosted by the European Nutrition Leadership Platform (ENLP).

During the main EFAD Conference, in partnership with EUFIC (the European Food Information Council), Eat Well Global’s Erin Kappelhof, MS, MPH, RDN, and Allison Pigatto, MS, RDN, presented a session, “Hands-on social media training for dietitians,” honing in on the best practices for Instagram – with EUFIC’s team covering Facebook and Twitter social media platforms.

Other prominent topics presented throughout the conference included the importance of developing more sustainable dietary patterns across Europe, healthy hydration, gut health and fermented foods’ impact on the microbiome, and the key role of protein for a healthy aging population.
